Julie is an accomplished trial and appellate attorney with over a decade of experience representing clients in all kinds of cases in both federal and state court. She earned her law degree from Yale School and has spent her career defending her clients in all kinds of criminal cases. As an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Southern District of Florida, she represented clients at the trial level in complex federal cases involving allegations of wire fraud, money laundering, immigration violations, drug and gun trafficking, robbery, carjacking, and manslaughter, obtaining numerous acquittals after trial. She also represented clients on appeal and in post-conviction proceedings, winning reversals and sentence reductions.
Prior to her work as an Assistant Federal Defender, she was a Staff Attorney at the Office of the Appellate Defender in New York, where she handled felony appeals and post-conviction proceedings. From 2011 to 2015, she worked as an Assistant Public Defender in Miami, conducting dozens of jury and bench trials. Her trial work resulted in numerous acquittals, dismissals, and favorable plea outcomes. Her litigation experience includes extensive motion practice on constitutional and evidentiary issues.
Prior to law school, she worked at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and performed as a professional ballet dancer with the Metropolitan Opera.
At Yale Law School, she was a Kirby Simon Summer Fellow and an Olin Fellow for Studies in Law, Economics, and Public Policy. She also served as Co-Director of the Capital Assistance Project, Support Chair on the Yale Law Women Board, Submissions Editor of the Yale Journal of Law and Feminism, and captain of the intramural volleyball team.
She graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University with a B.A. in Economics. She received the Phi Beta Kappa Award, was inducted into the School of General Studies Honor Society, and was recognized as a Student-Athlete Honoree for Academic Excellence while competing on the varsity volleyball team.
